| The canoe hull is built up from
some 60 to 80 lengths of ‘bead and cove’ cedar
strip (6mm by 20mm) glued edge to edge. It is then sheathed
throughout in fibreglass cloth set in epoxy. The resulting
blend of different shades of cedar combines good looks with
great structural rigidity and an almost maintenance free finish.
Kits come with full building instructions,
full size mould grawings, all canoe parts, glue (both wood
glue and epoxy) and fibreglass cloth and fastenings. You will
need to make up a building frame on which the moulds are mounted
(can be made out of scrap timber or a couple of good straight
planks) and cut moulds out of plywood from the templates provided.
There is a wide range of designs available;
traditional paddling canoes, specialist sailing, touring,
whitewater, solo and general purpose designs. Some that we
have built are shown below.
We have designs of a wide range of cedarstrip
canoes, traditional and modern, that can be custom built to
order. |

Perhaps the most elegant canoe ever designed. She is an excellent
touring boat with a hull shape reminiscent of the Peterborough.
We have also built a 17' version for those with a shorter
garage! |

Length 15' 7", Beam 32", Weight 45
lbs.
Selway Fisher version.
The Peterborough is a fast touring boat of moderate volume.
She has a low sheerline for minimum windage, limited rocker
for good tracking and moderate tumblehome ease of paddling
and good solo manoeuvrability. She would make an excellent
solo tourer for extended trips or a good doubles dayboat. |

Selway Fisher version
Designed for sailing the Carrick has a low sheerline, fine
entry and asymetric hull. She paddles quite well and has sufficient
capacity for an occasional double, however she is best when
sailed solo and is fast and very manoeuvrable. Shown with
push/pull rudder, gybing leeboard and aerofoil mast. |

Length 26', Beam 44", Weight 170 lbs.
This design is by John Winters of Redwing Designs.
She has an asymetric hull with fine entry and greater volume
at the stern for high performance. She performs remarkably
well with different loads on board, being responsive and lively
with 4 to 6 paddlers and yet steady with 10 adults on board.
In her home territory on Lake Ontario she has proved to be
a sucessful racing boat.
She could be built slightly shorter or longer
depending on requirments. We can build to order or customise
kits as required.
