Cedar strip kit construction

Kits come with ready bead and cove cedarstrip, hardwood trim, fibreglass cloth and all fastenings. Construction should take three to four weeks depending on the design. No previous woodworking experience is necessary, just a few simple tools (jigsaw, drill and hand tools) and enthusiasm. Kits include detailed building instructions and should it be required we can give advice by phone/e-mail/post.

1. Cut the moulds out of plywood by jigsaw using the full size paper templates provided. Mount on a jig (may simply be two planks screwed together) together with transom/hog/stem as required.

2. Plank the hull using the 'bead & cove' cedarstrip. The strips are stapled to the hull and glued edge to edge using the specially formulated wood glue supplied.

3. Remove the staples and sand the exterior of the hull. Sheath in fibreglass cloth and epoxy.

4. Remove from the moulds, turn over, sand and glass sheath the interior.

5. Fit gunwales.

6. On dinghies fit keel, bilge stringers and stem as required.

7. Fit seats and rest of the trim. Assemble sailing rig and boards as required from the materials provided.

8. Finish in paint or varnish as required.
